Hi, everyone! It’s Thanksgiving weekend in Canada and I’ll soon be on my way to my parents house for a great dinner, but I wanted to touch base to let you see how my menu plan from last week went and to share a bit of crappy news. :/
This past Tuesday night I received a phone call from the Humane Society letting me know that one of my fur babies, Charlie had been hit by a car. He did not survive. I can’t even describe how heartbroken I was….and still am. We adopted Charlie 9 yrs ago when he was barely old enough to be separated from his Mom. He always had a real natural instinct to go out; for the better part of 8yrs we did our very best to keep him in. This past summer he started to act out somewhat so we decided to let him explore knowing full well that being hit by a car was a very real danger. He was good about staying on our property, but a few weeks ago something compelled me to put the collar on him that we got when we adopted Pepper from the Humane Society. I am SO thankful that I did or we’d still be wondering what happened to him. The girl who took the call let me know that although he’d been hit, he was not run over. When she arrived a small group of people were with him; someone even put a sweater on him. She rushed him to the emergency vet clinic, but he died on the way. The fact that people stopped to help our little cat gives me such peace. Although we weren’t home when this happened, he was not alone at the end.
I will be perfectly honest here; after Tuesday I was not in the mood to cook or eat, but I did stick to my menu plan! And I have photo evidence!!!
Monday night’s crock pot vegetable & chick pea curry…. Tuesday night’s BBQ’d chicken thighs with corn and some gluten free bread that my hubby surprised me with! Here’s Wednesday night’s Pineapple Quinoa Cashew stir fry from Veganomicon: And Thursday night was pasta night. Noah had a hockey game and I always try to get some pasta into him on these nights! These are rice noodles, the fam had regular WW pasta. On Friday I stuck to the turkey sausage and the fam had peas and mac & cheese with theirs. I decided to slice mine and serve it over some leftover pasta: Then for lunch yesterday I ate the last little bit of pasta with sautéed spinach. There’s no photo evidence, but we enjoyed homemade chicken burgers for dinner last night. Yummy!

ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry about your cat. I can't even imagine how sad I would be to get that phone call.
ReplyDeleteI know I already said this on FB, but I'm so very sorry about Charlie.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for sticking with your menu plan! Hope you are having a nice Thanksgiving with your parents.
Poor Charlie :( But so good that you found out what happened - I can't imagine not knowing what happened, and wondering if he just wandered off or what. Still, very sad.
ReplyDeleteso sorry to hear that he didn't make it to the hospital. such a tragedy. but good that you managed to stick to the menu, everything look delicious.
ReplyDeleteOh Krista, that is so devastating. I am so sorry to hear this. You guys! Gosh I wish we could hug.
ReplyDeleteI really respect that you honored Charlie's adventurous spirit, even though I'm sure a part of you wishes you hadn't. However, I bet Charlie was having a blast outside - what a spirited little guy!
I was meeting with a terminally ill client last week who stated it beautifully: "We're all going to face death - mine is just sooner than I'd imagined." I nearly burst into teas.
You and your family are on my heart, sweet Krista love! xo
I was keeping up with the Charlie updates on FB. So sorry, Krista :(.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry about your kitty...I was heart broken when I saw it on facebook. Hugs to you and your family Krista!
ReplyDeleteAnd what great meals you've had this week! That recipe from veganomicon is something I need to try!
NO :( i am so sorry to hear this Krista :( Take care, giving you a huge hug <3 LOVE YOU
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about Charlie, Krista. Seriously..that had me tearing up. I can only imagine how you feel. I tend to get REALLY attached to my animals to the point I cried a full two weeks straight for a cat we had only had for a week. It's awful he was taken away from you so suddenly, but at least he was loved up until the end.
ReplyDelete(((Krista))) I'm so sorry for your loss. :(
ReplyDeleteHi Krista, I'm new to your blog and just had to comment. I'm sooo sorry for the loss of your beautiful Charlie. Pets are part of the family, and losing one is truly heartbreaking. (we lost our 16 year old tabby about 18 months ago, and though the tears have long since dried and we smile and laugh as we recall his antics -and we have another cat (Neva) now who absolutely helped our hearts heal, I still miss him every day!) My best wishes are with you and your family!! Really glad I found your blog, I have bookmarked and will be back.
ReplyDeleteoh no i am so sorry, krista! :(
ReplyDeletecan't even imagine having to go through that. thinking of you!
Oh no, I am so sorry to hear about your sweet little Charlie! I know firsthand how pets really become part of the family and the loss of a pet is heartbreaking...sending you hugs, my friend!
ReplyDeleteHope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
