All About DS

Happy beginning of the week to ya!!  Hope everyone is well.  Aside from DD coming down with a doozy of a cold, all’s good on my end.  DS’s b-day was Friday…can’t believe my baby is 9!!!IMG_4634
The celebration lasted for 2 days and was he ever soaking the attention up.  LOL  On Friday he had 2 school friends over for a bit after school, then we took them down to see a hockey game.  One kid had never even watched hockey on TV and was SO excited.  It was a pleasure to watch him.  He told me at one point that his “spirit was on fire”.  Love it!!  Where do kids come up with these things?  It was a good game with our team winning 6-2.  I don’t have any photos from the evening because I forgot my camera.  DOH!  Saturday morning was spent doing housework and getting the rec room ready for more company as DS had 4 of his hockey teammates over to “hang out” for a few hours.  Surprisingly, there were no fights, bruises or tears!  Boys can get pretty rough, especially when they’re used to being on the ice together, so we were pleased that there were no issues.  One of the boys has a sister DD’s age so she came over, too.  Girls always have something or other to discuss, right?!  Haha!!  After the boys left we packed up and went to see Yogi Bear 3D.
Cute movie.  It was DS’s choice and the kids really enjoyed it.  The next stop was dinner at Einstein’s CafĂ©.  Here are few photos we took while waiting for our meals:   IMG_4984 IMG_4974 IMG_4976 IMG_4977 IMG_4983 And here are our dinners!IMG_4989
Bruschetta to start.  The kids stole a few pieces before I could get the camera out! They were hungry!!  My hubby had shrimp primavera which was done with rice noodles in a light sauce.  He really enjoyed it…IMG_4991
I went with the special; salmon with a tomato/mango salsa and a cowl of curried zucchini soup to start:IMG_4990 IMG_4992
The food was outstanding!  My salmon was cooked to (my) perfection…just like butter.  Oh, my!  My hubby helped me with the soup and we both enjoyed it as, well.  The kids both had pasta; DD’s was a pesto penne and DS’s a penne Bolognese, no photos, though.  Needless to say, we were all too full for dessert!  We ended the night in our “comfy” clothes and a Shrek movie.
Sunday held exciting plans for the adult portion of our household; a trip to Lululemon and Whole Foods which is about 1 hour away.  DD was happy to go to Lulu, not so happy about Whole Foods and DS pitched a fit about the whole deal.  Luck for him, his friend called up just as we were about to leave to see if he wanted to spend the day at his house.  Crisis averted!  LOL  I was a good girl at Lulu and only walked out with 2 pairs of undies and 1 pair of shorts.  My hubby went a little crazier, but he found pretty much what he was after so all was good.  After all, we do *try* to work so we can play!  As luck would have it we reached WF at noon.  I whipped around the store finding everything I wanted before we hit the sandwich bar for food to go.  But first, the goods:IMG_4998 IMG_4997 IMG_4999 Marianne blogged about the Nature’s Path cereal and seeing as she’s never steered me wrong I picked up a box.  Divine, I tell you….and for a good cause to boot!  I just love that company!  I also bought some Tortilla chips, rainbow chard, ground bison and we ground our own peanut butter.  On to our sammies.  My hubby had a ham and grilled asparagus on a ciabatta bun:IMG_4995  While I devoured a buffalo mozzarella/tomato/basil beauty:IMG_4996 DD had a turkey and brie, but as usual was too busy eating it to be bothered by a photo.  We also popped into Starbucks where I got a grande NF gingerbread misto:IMG_4994
I finished off the weekend by making a huge pot of split pea soup for dinner which was much appreciated seeing as the temps around here are back to ridiculously freezing!IMG_5001 Other notable eats are as follows:IMG_5006 IMG_4948 IMG_4966
DS wanted waffles for his b-day breakfast.  These had mini caramel stuffed chocolates in them!
IMG_4993 IMG_4962 IMG_4949IMG_4804 IMG_4888  IMG_4953 IMG_4967 IMG_4945 IMG_4950 IMG_4954 IMG_5007 IMG_4955 IMG_4964 We had Thai after hockey one night.  Spring rolls, Pad Thai, oh my!IMG_4960 IMG_4956 IMG_4957 IMG_4958 IMG_4959 I’m off now to read some magazines.  They’ve accumulated like bunnies lately and I promised myself 30 minutes of reading them each night this week.  As I read them I pass them on to a girl at work.  I can’t bear to throw them out so I donate them where I can!!
Have a great night…..
Bye for now!!

What’s Been On The Menu

The summer sure does seem to keep me away from the computer, eh???  I wouldn’t say I’ve been busy exactly the last few days; occupied is probably a better word.  I’ve been up to the usual stuff, like eating oats for breakfast:IMG_3037
Nature's Path Maple Nut porridge with granola and a little cream:IMG_3043
Nature’s Path Flax cereal with coconut butter and carob chips;IMG_3055
More oats with zucchini jam, walnut pieces and this coconut milk.IMG_3053
Now that I’m back to work (and the gym) I’ve been digging into my bar stash that I stocked up on in the States:IMG_3038
This Odwalla bar was just awesome!IMG_3044
Smores zbar!  This was the last box on the shelf at Target.  Phew!IMG_3056
And a good ole PB Cookie LUNA bar.
I’ve been rocking at the gym, too!  I ran on Wednesday for the first time in a good month.  I did 3 miles in 30:46 which was better than I thought I would do.  I woke up with a sore hip the next day, though.  Boo!  Thursday we did the 30 Day Shred.  Have I mentioned that there are 6 of us doing it now on Tuesday’s & Thursday’s?  It’s GREAT!  I only had a half hour lunch today so I cranked out 2.6 miles on the elliptical.  I’ll take it!
Lunches have been…..rushed.  With the kids in camp all day I’ve been back to making lunches at night and I have to admit that it’s a chore I don’t like very much!  My creativity gets tapped out on the kids food and I’ve been just grabbing whatever.IMG_3039
Cottage cheese, crushed pineapple & walnuts.  One of my favourite combos!IMG_3045 IMG_3046
Oikos honey yogurt, Archer Farms blueberry flax granola and strawberries.  YUM!IMG_3057 IMG_3058
Ocean’s tuna & sundried tomato salad.  Looks like cat food, I know, but it was really tasty.
I’ve been trying to keep to fruit for my afternoon snacks:IMG_3040
2 very ripe, sweet peaches….IMG_3048 IMG_3047
A mini Hawaiian blizzard!  It was Miracle Day at DQ and a few ladies at work took our orders and picked them up.  This was the perfect size for a treat!IMG_3060
Boring grapes.  “nuff said.
Let’s see what dinners have been like….IMG_3042
Looks like some leftover quinoa salad and tuna salad on one of these Dr. Kracker crackers!
IMG_3041
Then there was…IMG_3049 IMG_3050 Chinese!  Neither of the kids were home for dinner last night so my hubby and I treated ourselves to take out.  What you see here is suppose to be a meal for one.  HUH???  I ate maybe a quarter of it.  All the sesame chicken, a little rice and some veggies.  Lots leftover!   And tonight’s feast: IMG_3061
Tomato and cucumber from the garden and a “BLT” with tempeh bacon:
 IMG_3025
I’ve been enjoying my sweet ends like always.  IMG_3051 Another little treat for our childless dinner last night was Baskin Robbins!  I went for my fave; pineapple coconut froyo.  And yes, I had ice cream 2 times in one day.  There was a time were I would beat myself up for that, but those days are LONG gone.  Amen!
So, what have I been doing the past 2 nights to keep me offline?  Well, Wednesday night we had company over to watch SYTYCD.  Awesome night of dancing or what???  And last night I went to pick DS up from his buddy’s house and got chatting for over an hour with the Mom.  Ooops!  I got home in time to see the very last hour of the SYTYCD season 7 finale.  GO LAUREN!!!  Love Kent and Robert, but I’m so glad Lauren took it!
And I’m SO GLAD that Friday is finally here!   I will be spending as much time as possible outside on the deck soaking up the last of the warm summer nights.  AND, I will be posting a review tomorrow so you have that to look forward to!  :)
Bye for now!!
