All About DS

Happy beginning of the week to ya!!  Hope everyone is well.  Aside from DD coming down with a doozy of a cold, all’s good on my end.  DS’s b-day was Friday…can’t believe my baby is 9!!!IMG_4634
The celebration lasted for 2 days and was he ever soaking the attention up.  LOL  On Friday he had 2 school friends over for a bit after school, then we took them down to see a hockey game.  One kid had never even watched hockey on TV and was SO excited.  It was a pleasure to watch him.  He told me at one point that his “spirit was on fire”.  Love it!!  Where do kids come up with these things?  It was a good game with our team winning 6-2.  I don’t have any photos from the evening because I forgot my camera.  DOH!  Saturday morning was spent doing housework and getting the rec room ready for more company as DS had 4 of his hockey teammates over to “hang out” for a few hours.  Surprisingly, there were no fights, bruises or tears!  Boys can get pretty rough, especially when they’re used to being on the ice together, so we were pleased that there were no issues.  One of the boys has a sister DD’s age so she came over, too.  Girls always have something or other to discuss, right?!  Haha!!  After the boys left we packed up and went to see Yogi Bear 3D.
Cute movie.  It was DS’s choice and the kids really enjoyed it.  The next stop was dinner at Einstein’s CafĂ©.  Here are few photos we took while waiting for our meals:   IMG_4984 IMG_4974 IMG_4976 IMG_4977 IMG_4983 And here are our dinners!IMG_4989
Bruschetta to start.  The kids stole a few pieces before I could get the camera out! They were hungry!!  My hubby had shrimp primavera which was done with rice noodles in a light sauce.  He really enjoyed it…IMG_4991
I went with the special; salmon with a tomato/mango salsa and a cowl of curried zucchini soup to start:IMG_4990 IMG_4992
The food was outstanding!  My salmon was cooked to (my) perfection…just like butter.  Oh, my!  My hubby helped me with the soup and we both enjoyed it as, well.  The kids both had pasta; DD’s was a pesto penne and DS’s a penne Bolognese, no photos, though.  Needless to say, we were all too full for dessert!  We ended the night in our “comfy” clothes and a Shrek movie.
Sunday held exciting plans for the adult portion of our household; a trip to Lululemon and Whole Foods which is about 1 hour away.  DD was happy to go to Lulu, not so happy about Whole Foods and DS pitched a fit about the whole deal.  Luck for him, his friend called up just as we were about to leave to see if he wanted to spend the day at his house.  Crisis averted!  LOL  I was a good girl at Lulu and only walked out with 2 pairs of undies and 1 pair of shorts.  My hubby went a little crazier, but he found pretty much what he was after so all was good.  After all, we do *try* to work so we can play!  As luck would have it we reached WF at noon.  I whipped around the store finding everything I wanted before we hit the sandwich bar for food to go.  But first, the goods:IMG_4998 IMG_4997 IMG_4999 Marianne blogged about the Nature’s Path cereal and seeing as she’s never steered me wrong I picked up a box.  Divine, I tell you….and for a good cause to boot!  I just love that company!  I also bought some Tortilla chips, rainbow chard, ground bison and we ground our own peanut butter.  On to our sammies.  My hubby had a ham and grilled asparagus on a ciabatta bun:IMG_4995  While I devoured a buffalo mozzarella/tomato/basil beauty:IMG_4996 DD had a turkey and brie, but as usual was too busy eating it to be bothered by a photo.  We also popped into Starbucks where I got a grande NF gingerbread misto:IMG_4994
I finished off the weekend by making a huge pot of split pea soup for dinner which was much appreciated seeing as the temps around here are back to ridiculously freezing!IMG_5001 Other notable eats are as follows:IMG_5006 IMG_4948 IMG_4966
DS wanted waffles for his b-day breakfast.  These had mini caramel stuffed chocolates in them!
IMG_4993 IMG_4962 IMG_4949IMG_4804 IMG_4888  IMG_4953 IMG_4967 IMG_4945 IMG_4950 IMG_4954 IMG_5007 IMG_4955 IMG_4964 We had Thai after hockey one night.  Spring rolls, Pad Thai, oh my!IMG_4960 IMG_4956 IMG_4957 IMG_4958 IMG_4959 I’m off now to read some magazines.  They’ve accumulated like bunnies lately and I promised myself 30 minutes of reading them each night this week.  As I read them I pass them on to a girl at work.  I can’t bear to throw them out so I donate them where I can!!
Have a great night…..
Bye for now!!

Pre Christmas Post

Happy Thursday, all!!  I wanted to be sure to get a post up before the holiday frenzy commences at my place.  I’m sure many of you are plenty busy already, right??  I’m hoping that each and every one of you has family/loved ones to spend the holidays with this year.  Let me know what your plans are, K?!

Amidst the busyness that has been this week we managed to have some fun on Tuesday night!  The fam and I trekked to Toronto for a World Junior hockey game.  Canada vs Sweden, to be exact.IMG_4534   What a great time!  I had never been to the Air Canada Centre before so I was pretty stoked.  Besides that, I just LOVE downtown T.O. so any time I’m there is a happy time for me.  LOL  My camera died part way through, but here are some photos that I took when we arrived:IMG_4529 IMG_4544 IMG_4535 IMG_4537 IMG_4542 IMG_4525 IMG_4526 IMG_4543
Needless to say it was a late night and getting out of bed yesterday was NOT easy.  Especially when everyone else was home and still tucked in.  Boo!  I believe I left off Sunday just as we were leaving for DS’s hockey team’s Christmas party.  What a fun afternoon that was!  One of the Dad’s is the manager of a hotel so the party was held there.  They boys spent the afternoon playing mini sticks and swimming while the parents took advantage of a free bar and much conversation.  This, my friends, is as close to a beach as I’m gonna get this year!

Steamy hotel pool, here I come!!  LOL There was also a great hot buffet served for a late lunch and a present exchange for the boys.    A great way for the boys to spend some time together OFF the ice, to be sure!  :)  Here’s DS mid fun:IMG_4516 IMG_4517
Let’s see….Monday was a blissfully free night spent on the couch although I probably should’ve been wrapping presents.  Wednesday DS was supposed to have a hockey game but the out of town team was a no show.  Apparently they thought the game was tonight.  So it turned into a practice instead.  I came home with DD and sat on the couch.  Should’ve wrapped presents.  Are we seeing a trend here?  LOL  So, last night’s game DID happen tonight and I WILL be wrapping presents just as soon as my monkey’s go to sleep.  In other weekly news, DD went to the movies this afternoon.  With a boy.  GULP!  In actuality, I think it’s pretty cool.  They’ve been friends since they were 5 and I don’t really want to mar that notion by making a big deal out of nothing.  My hubby, on the other hand, had a slightly more difficult time with it.  :)  I think he’s feeling a little bit of “what goes around comes around”, if ya know what I mean!  HAHA!
I’ve still been eating fast meals, mostly on the run.  Here’s what I’ve got to show for it,IMG_4556 IMG_4550 IMG_4551 IMG_4554 IMG_4555 IMG_4524 IMG_4521 IMG_4522 IMG_4523 Seeing as I have the next week off I’m hoping to post some reviews that are LONG over due.  You can look forward to my thoughts on Enjoy Life Foods Boom Bars, Olivado Avocado Oil, a waffle maker, Rain Forest Tuna & Salmon and some pretty tasty candy canes!  Until then I’d like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas!  I’ll leave you with a photo of me and the kids from last week:me and kids Bye for now!!
