A Free Friday

Now that it’s Friday, I can say that the week went fast. And I’m so glad the work week is done because there is nothing on the agenda for tonight except catching up on the magazine’s that have piled up on my table. So let’s get with the eats, shall we? :D GEDC7457

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup Quaker oats
  • cinnamon
  • crushed pineapple
  • Sahale walnut snack mix GEDC7455

Here are some snacks that I enjoyed today… GEDC7464 GEDC7459 GEDC7460 GEDC7461

The pineapple flax muffins turned out perfectly. They’re nice and big and filling…healthy, too!

I got all set to go to the gym today and had just started on the elliptical when a co worker came to get me because the school had called that DS needed his inhaler. CRAP! So off I went to the school. Thankfully my office, house and school are all on the same route so I was there pretty quick. DS doesn’t have asthma in the “traditional” sense. It’s more environmentally driven and his main symptoms are cough and tightness of the chest. Normally spring and fall are the worst for him, but extreme cold can trigger it, too. And it is COLD today! Minus 21*C (around 4*F) with the wind chill. YIKES! They had been out for recess when he started complaining. A few puffs later and he was a new man. :)

Back at work I warmed up my very last serving of 10 minute chicken and rice soup: GEDC7462

I also spread 2 Ryvita crackers with a LC cheese wedge and topped them with some red pepper strips. GEDC7463

I picked DD up right after work to deliver her to a b-day party. After eating pizza and cake the girls are going to see The Tooth Fairy”. She was pretty excited to go! Then I dropped half my pay cheque worth of money (just kidding…..maybe) off to DS’s power skating coach. While gone my hubby got dinner together. GEDC7465

Grilled turkey sausage, steamed veggies and I warmed up the chickpeas. In the centre of my plate is some Ted Readers peach bourbon sauce for dipping. Food always tastes better when someone else cooks it, eh? ;) I came across one of my favourite ever chocolate bars on top of the fridge after eating. GEDC7466

Not sure if I was suppose to touch it, but I cut that baby in half and savoured each delicious bite.

My boys are currently watching one of Don Cherry Rock’em Sock’em videos. Man, some of those hits are outrageous! I told DS that when (if) he gets to a level of hockey where that kind of hitting takes place I won’t be able to watch. I think my head will be stuck in my hands the whole time! *shiver*

So, what crazy, wonderful plans does everyone have for the weekend? Mine will be fairly low key. DS has a 2 hour practice tomorrow and then we’ll go to the store to get grab bag goodies for his glow in the dark mini golf party on Sunday. Should be blasty!

Bye for now!!

Cans 4 Comments

Happy Thursday, all! I’ve got some important business that I want to talk about before I get to the food and “fun” of the day! As some of you may know from reading the blog, this holiday season I participated in Natalie’s Project Feed Me. This past Monday signalled the end of the 9 week “challenge” and I feel SO good about the box of food I have ready to go to the food bank this weekend. Much thanks to Natalie for hosting such a wonderful cause. Times sure have been tough this year and although my family was (thankfully) not hit too hard, I know of some wonderful people in my community that did take a hit below the belt. I’ve ALWAYS supported my local food bank and would like to initiate another fun drive that I read about over at To Be The Whole Package called Cans 4 Comments. It’s very simple, actually. For every comment I receive on THIS post until midnight Friday, December 11, I will donate one food item to the Food Bank in my community. So please, PLEASE come out of the woods and comment. Linking back to this post on your blog would be much appreciated, too! THANK YOU!!

Today was another snowy, blustery day so a hot breakfast was a must. And oats were also good considering that I still had a half tooth in one side of my mouth! 100_7525

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup Quaker oats
  • cinnamon
  • raisins
  • banana
  • smooth almond butter 100_7523

I really didn’t accomplish a whole lot this morning. I helped DD with a project that she’s working on for school and spent too much time on the computer. Ah, c’est la vie! I called my dentist first thing this morning and got a 1pm appointment so a soft, easy to chew lunch was a must! I went with an egg white omelette jam packed with kale, mushrooms and goat’s milk brie; 100_7526

Then I ate a chocolate chip All Bran bar, 100_7527

So the news at the dentist wasn’t terrible. There’s enough tooth left to have a crown put on so I go back next Wednesday for some prep work then the following Wednesday after that for the actual crown. Fun times. It’s freaking freezing out so DD and I enjoyed hot chocolate’s when we got back. This is my favourite kind; 100_7528

Once DS got home from school we settled in for a game of Scrabble. The rules kinda go out the window when playing with my 2!

Dinner was simple tonight with turkey sausages, couscous and steamed broccoli. I also had some Ted Readers peach bourbon sauce for dipping; 100_7531

I finished off the meal with a Morning Glory bar. 100_7529

The wind is a whipping out there and I’m looking forward to cuddling under a blanket while watching some TV tonight. Wonder if CSI and Vampire Diaries are repeats again tonight? And look what I have waiting for me on the kitchen counter for later… 100_7532

Mmmmm….

**REMEMBER TO COMMENT!! I would LOVE to see my box of food overflowing by the time I go to the Food Bank Saturday morning!!!**

Bye for now!!

Spinning

Hi guys! First off I’d like to apologize for my lack lustre post yesterday. I really wasn’t feeling my best when I typed it out. I started feeling pretty icky after my hot-as-Hades run; queasy belly, headache, tiredness, etc. Sitting in the humid pool environment for an hour did not help! After posting I crashed in front of the TV and watched Twilight (again). When I got up to go to bed I was really dizzy. Like drank-to-much-wine dizzy. Everything was spinning when I laid down in bed. *ugh* Then I woke up this morning feeling hung over. Too bad I didn’t have any fun to justify it! The headache has lasted all day, but I’m hoping to sleep it off tonight. 100_7223
-1 cup water
-1/3 cup sunrise blend with quinoa
-cinnamon
-PB2
-carob chips & hazelnut pieces 100_7222
This put a smile on my face!

Work plodded on by. I did a lot of keypunching today which was probably a good thing because it doesn’t require me to wear my thinking cap. ;) I munched on some nuts mid morning… 100_7230
No gym time today…it’s yoga day. Doubt I would’ve gone anyhow. I had to zip up to the mall to get a few things so it all worked out. On the way I ate a Kashi bar to tie me over; 100_7234
And I couldn’t leave without hitting up Starbucks. I went with an Erica inspired beverage today… 100_7235
This is a grande 3 pump gingerbread NF misto. Heck of a good brew! I also treated myself to a cute little cup that was 20% off… 100_7236

Lunch came late as that drink filled me up, but when I got to it, it sure was da bomb! Onto a flatout wrap I spread a LC cheese wedge, topped it with the last of my broccoli sprouts from Manon, roast beef and a generous squirt of mango wasabi mustard; 100_7238
Fan-freaking-tastic! I could’ve eaten 2. The mango wasabi mustard adds such a great tang to everything, but I did notice the other night that it contains HFCS. That doesn’t really panic me at all, but I will use it in moderation. Do you panic when you buy something then realize the ingredient list contains an undesirable item? If so, how do you handle it? Just curious!

I bit into a honey crisp apple later in the afternoon; 100_7239

I only have one of these bad boys left until next years crop! BOO!

We all had to be out the door for skating lessons/hockey practice by 5pm. The fam enjoyed an early dinner of chicken fingers and fries. I warmed up the last of Tuesday’s pork tenderloin, Wednesday’s roasted potatoes and some steamed edamame. Also on the plate was some Ted Readers peach bourbon sauce; 100_7240

I ate a piece of my white chocolate coconut Lindt bar for a sweet end.

I’m finally home and changed into my comfy clothes…AKA pj’s….and plan on tuning into CSI Vegas and Vampire Diaries before retiring for the night. Tomorrow will be an early one because the kids are off school for the day and DS has hockey camp across town at 8am. Speaking of my bad ass hockey dude, here he is in his most angelic form; 100_7205

Too tough, this I know! LOL!! And I can’t believe I’m gonna post this next photo because I look positively hideous in it (I must really like you guys!), but Pepper is just too cute in it. 100_7220

He doesn’t appreciate us getting in his face and always blocks us with his paw. Hehe! Of course, his resistance makes it all the more fun!!

Bye for now!!!

Halloween Festivities

I was up earlier than usual this morning. I think it was the excitement of us getting all dressed up in our costumes! Even better was the fact that my outfit required yoga pants, hardly any make up and a pony tail! I was downstairs 15 minutes earlier than if I was getting dolled up for a regular day at work! Before we get to the fun photos, let check out breakfast; 100_6857

-1 cup coffee
-1/3 cup oat bran
-chocolate honey
-Enjoy Life Foods mountain mix 100_6856

I pretty much inhaled that. I might’ve even burnt my tongue a bit! ;)

The kids picked out fairly easy costumes this year. DS wanted to be Bumble Bee the Transformer; Noah

And DD went to what she calls a “dead” person: Sarah

LOL! Let me tell you….the cats DID NOT appreciate their get ups! They freaked right the hell out! It was kinda funny, actually. Once their hair and tails puffed out they looked like true Halloween cats. And here I am…hockey player extraordinaire; me

I know, the pink slippers sealed the deal!! Everyone was impressed with A) my black eye and B) the fact that I fit into my 7yr olds hockey gear! Well, the helmet is DD’s, but she’s only 10. :D Apparently I look like a 12yr old boy in this shot! 100_6868

Here are a few pumpkins from the pumpkin carving contest; 100_6875 100_6870 100_6871

Yes, some of my co-workers have a “sick” sense of humour! I also had the pleasure of posing with a witch; 100_6869

And we had a show girl and an official Olympic drug tester in the house;

100_6872

A ghoul dropped in; 100_6874

And Dora even took time off from her adventure’s to pay us a visit! 100_6876

ROFL!!! :D

There was a potluck over the noon hour with tons of food. I don’t remember/know all that was on my plate, but here it is; 100_6881

That was some wicked spinach salad so I had more of that. I kept the treats on the light side with a piece of pecan apple pie (to die for), a small piece of pumpkin crisp and some fruit (which was eaten later on in the day); 100_6882

I just went with a light supper seeing as lunch was heavier than normal. I also used up a few leftovers while I was at it. 100_6885

This is the last of my tofu, jade grain blend and some broccoli & yellow bell peppers all mixed up with a few spoonfuls of Ted Readers peach bourbon sauce.

We left for hockey right after dinner and when we got back home my hubby and the kids carved the pumpkins. This is one “job” that he likes to do every year. The kids get to gut the pumpkin for him… 100_6884 100_6883

Don’t they look impressed? :) I enjoyed a bowl of Nature’s Path Flax Plus Maple Pecan Crunch cereal for a snack; 100_6886

Here’s the finished product!! 100_6888 100_6889

Pretty neat, eh? I think they did a great job!

Anyways, the time grows late and I still need to assemble treat bags for the boys on the hockey team tomorrow! Have a great Friday night!

Bye for now!!
