Office CSA!

Hey! I’m happy to report that everyone seems to be back in good health at my place. Amen! And I slept like a rock last night. Amazing. It occurred to me in the shower this morning that I was such a zombie yesterday morning that I totally skipped my moisturizing step! I haven’t missed that in years. I had enough bounce in my step after such a good sleep that I made it downstairs to the kitchen 5 minutes earlier than usual. Spare time…YES! LOL That meant my breakfast wasn’t rushed. IMG_1449
-1 cup water
-1/2 cup spelt flakes
-cinnamon
-blueberries
-kefir IMG_1447
Simple, filling, delicious. ‘Nuff said.

All morning I was excited to get into the gym for a power walk. It’s always nice to have something to look forward to, right? I found a lonely Sencha Tea Bar among the many Clif & Lunas in my basket:

I wish these guys were more readily available around here because I love the texture of them. They’re chalk full of seeds! Check it out… IMG_1453
I found a few of these in the colder months at Winner’s, but they don’t seem to have them anymore. I’ll have to see if I can source them out in Canada. Any fellow Canuck seen them around???

Back to my walk; it was glorious! I set the pace to 4.2mph and the incline at 7%. AND, I chatted with a co worker who just started coming to the gym (YAY!) for 20 huffing minutes.

Time: 50 minutes
Avg Hr: 159
Max Hr: 174
Calories Torched: 484
Distance: 3.5 miles

Speaking of finding lonely (food) things, I happened upon a forgotten about Fage that had been pushed to the back of the fridge last night. That little honey quickly became my lunch! HA! I mixed in a scoop of Crofter’s Superfruit jam and the last of my granola. IMG_1454
The expiry date on the yogurt said “April 18/10”, but when it comes to yogurt/cottage cheese/sour cream that has not been opened yet, I don’t pay much mind to the dates. Unless, of course, it’s months past. I just make sure to use it all up in a speedy manner once it has been opened. How much attention to do pay to expiration dates???

My afternoon pick me up was a bowl of honey dew and cantaloupe chunks: IMG_1455

A few of these jumped into my hand on the way out the door…IMG_1451

There’s a fella at work who runs an organic vegetable farm nearby and this year is running a kin of CSA at the office. Basically, he will email what he’s got in season and whoever wants some just has to reply with how much. This week was asparagus and I bought 2 bunches, $3 each: IMG_1457

I grilled some to go along with my dinner which was a pizza made on a WW pita with sun dried tomato pesto, turkey pepperoni, mushrooms, roasted red peppers, kalamata olives and freshly grated parm. IMG_1458

This was a great meal! The pita got nice and crisp after being in a 450* oven for 10 minutes and the asparagus was tender and sweet. This is the pesto I used: IMG_1456

Shortly after eating we left for Pilates class.

Now that I’m back I’m sipping a hot coffee (decaf) and just noshed on a granola bar (no photo). I’m excited to see that at almost 8pm, the sky is still bright! Love it! I’ll be settling in to watch the Biggest Loser momentarily then it’ll be bed time for me. Did you do anything out of the ordinary tonight?

  1. whoa! So jealous of the in office CSA! And can't beat delivery right to your desk ;) The asparagus looks fantastic. Glad you had such a nice day- I love when I'm running ahead in the morning. In terms of expiration dates- I am cautious with things like meat (for Josh)...but others...a little lose :) Especially when its a sell by

  2. Canadian here. I found those green tea bars at Winners and Homesense in Kitchener/Waterloo when I visited my mom. Peterborough and Milton have them right now as well! Those are the only stores I have ever seen them in.

  3. your yogurt mess looks awesome! i only pay attention to expiration dates with milk products and soy...otherwise i don't think twice. unless it's a box of crackers that has been sitting in the cupboard for like, over a year. haha.

  5. If it hasn't been opened I don't care either, but if it has I definitely have a problem with it if it is a dairy product.

  7. I haven't seen those bars around but they look awesome! I will eat food past expiry date as long as it looks and smells okay.

  8. I am so not concerned about expiry dates - which technically, aren't actually expiry dates, but best before dates, because it's not like the food magically goes bad at midnight ;) I give the food the sight test, then sniff test, then taste test. Although, funnily enough, mom took out some milk that was a couple days past it's date, and I took a taste today, and OMG, it was horrid! I think that's why she made me tasste it.

I've never seen your bars - although I see that someone who commented above saw them at a store on the Island, so they must be around!

  10. I am so excited for asparagus! Our downtown Wednesday market opens today and I'm going on my lunch break to find some - fingers crossed! I never buy it in the winter. It needs to be eaten a day or two after picking - I think.

if things are expired, I do the smell test. I find sour cream will last a month past it's date, milk really depends. Yogurt is pretty safe too. Salad dressings I'll eat about 2 months past the date.

  12. I saw those bars semi recently at Winners here but I think that was a few weeks ago and they didn't have a ton. Every time I saw them I meant to buy one and I never did. Now I wish I had tried them! I'll have to take a look back and see if they're still there. I wonder if you can find them online?

I'm the same way with expiration dates. I hate wasting food and 90% of the time it's just fine for quite a while after, most especially if still completely sealed!

I am such a n expiration date whore!! lol!! I dont know why, but I am, I wont even eat something if it expires in two days, horrible I know, but I make sure to not buy stuff that Im going to eat right away, and not something like a tub of cottage cheese that could be in my fridge for a while!

    love ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. I'm a little weird about expiration dates and immediately throw something away if it's past the date! Your breakfast looks delicious by the way :)

  15. I'd be afraid to eat something (especially dairy!) so far past the expiration date, but maybe you've shed new light on this for me today... unless, of course, it turned out to be the reason you were unable to post today. ;P JK!
