Canada Day!

Mother Nature was kind today in giving Canada some beautiful sunshine and warmth. My hubby had to work, which was a bummer, but the kids and I still had a fun day. I was looking forward to sleeping in but I was awake 10 minutes later than my alarm normally goes off. Sheesh! That’s OK; getting up early is different when it’s on my terms, not the alarm clocks. I laid in bed for a bit enjoying the silence, but soon enough my stomach was rumbling.IMG_2330

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup Quakers oats
  • cinnamon
  • raisins
  • walnuts
  • Boathouse vanilla chai

The kids took off to play with a neighbour kid and I got to work cleaning the house some. Seeing as the sun was out and there was a nice breeze, I laundered and hung all my clothes, towels, etc on the clothesline. There’s just something about using the clothesline that leaves me feeling so content. Once all the straightening and tidying was done I called the kids home for some lunch. They had sandwiches, I had a BIG salad!IMG_2332

This had Boston from the garden, fresh peas, leftover steamed mixed veg, sundried tomato feta and Renee’s Caesar parm dressing. Here’s the feta I used;IMG_2331

I’ve never tried this brand of feta before but had a coupon so I went for it and am I ever glad I did! I loved it and so did my kids. Funny enough, Caitlin is doing a month long “review” on this exact product! I’ll be sure to keep tabs at her blog to see what kinds of recipes she comes up with! Once lunch was done I beautified myself and drove over to the park with the kids. I took a wee snack along for the ride:IMG_2333

Mmmm, a blueberry bran muffin with raw chocolate coconut spread on it! Amazing stuff.

There was a ton of stuff to at the bash that was going on at the park. Every Canada Day the Rotary Club puts on a great party! I snapped some pictures of the kids throughout the afternoon;IMG_2345 IMG_2335 IMG_2339

While the kids cooled off with their ice cream, I indulged in one of my favourite vegan cookies, triple chocolate strawberry:IMG_2341

Ring toss!

Some players from our city’s hockey team had a shooting area set up and about 5 of them were signing autographs. DS was sure to get some shots in, his hat signed and a photo with his #1 favourite player,IMG_2336

This player has coached DS before and is always sure to encourage DS to show him how he’s doing or what he’s learned. For a not quite 18yr old, he’s great with the littler ones and is always sure to make them feel good. After 2 hours were made our way home to get some dinner going because DS had a 6:30pm soccer game. We went simple with plain ole burgers. I had one of these Yves veggie burgers.IMG_2346

I really like this brand! I dressed mine with a LC cheese wedge, ketchup, Dijon, mayo, pickle, hot peppers and lettuce on a burger thin;IMG_2347

Dessert was the last of the apple pie with ice cream and butterscotch sauce:IMG_2350

Here’s what DD’s piece looked like!IMG_2349

Decadent! Speaking of soccer, we found out today that DS has made the BU8 (boys under 8) All Star team! I’m pretty stoked about that because growing up soccer was my sport. While the boys are 8 & 9 the league is pretty low key. He will still playhouse league on Thursday nights but will now also have 8 Sunday morning practices with a tournament out of town mid to late September. You know I’ll be keeping you posted!

Anyhow, that’s about it for now. I’m getting ready to watch SYTYCD to see who gets the boot. I hope it’s that tapper girl. Catch ya all tomorrow!

Bye for now!!
