A Few Good Books

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope everyone has enjoyed the day in some shape or form. We were pretty low key today which was really nice. I didn’t sleep in at all after my late night, but woke up naturally so I guess I was ready. And I was hungry!! IMG_0309

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup flax porridge
  • cinnamon
  • raisins
  • almond butter
  • chocolate honey

After breakfast we went out to the farm for a visit. My MIL had lemon pie which was very tasty! I started out with a small sliver: IMG_0314

But then DS didn’t finish his so I ate that, too. :~) We were treated to an intense game of Go Fish! IMG_0318

And hung out with a cutie pie Boston. IMG_0315

I wasn’t exactly hungry when we got home, but I had a few things on the agenda for the afternoon so I warmed up a bowl of this soup:

I served it with a Dr. Kracker 3 grain cracker. IMG_0319

The soup was just OK. It had lots of veggies and noodles and was thick which are all bonuses in my book. I just found it to be lacking a bit in the flavour department.

After eating we packed up and made our way to the park for some skating. Well, the fam did. I have enough trouble skating on a smooth surface, never mind an outdoor rink! I was resident photographer. IMG_0329 IMG_0320 IMG_0321 IMG_0326 IMG_0328

HA! What a blast! Until the kids tripped each other up, that was. DD is not competitive by nature so she decided enough was enough at that point. I packed her up and we took off to the mall while the boys hung out a bit longer. We hit Starbuck’s right off the bat for hot drinks to warm our bones. I went with a tall NF half sweet green tea latte:

That was one welcome beverage, I tell ya! Our next stop was the store where I bought my camera because they had given me a voucher for 25 free prints within 60 days of my camera purchase. I’ve been putting a scrapbook together for DS’s hockey so I had some pictures for that developed as well as some from the dance last night. The last store we went to was Chapters to buy some books with our gift cert’s from Christmas time. Here are DD’s purchases: IMG_0336

And mine: IMG_0338

I’m VERY excited to get to these. They’re in line behind 2 others plus one I’m just finishing.

I got home just in time to get some dinner going. It was a simple affair consisting of grilled salmon, couscous and steamed veggies, plus a scoop of Sabra hummus for dipping. IMG_0339

I currently have this lazy bones cuddling in my lap: IMG_0312

And am watching The Amazing Race while typing this out through the commercials. ;) My hubby’s after the laptop, so I’m going to surrender it to him make a cup of tea. Have a great night!

Bye for now!!

  1. A nice Valentine's day for sure! I find a lot of canned/ boxed soups are lacking in the flavor department...I almost always add a little red pepper spice for some kick. Love the skating pictures. And mall trips are almost always fun! Hope this upcoming week treats you well

  5. Looks like such a fun family day! I love skating, but have yet to get out the rink this winter yet--I just don't find the time unfortunately!! And I usually like boxed soups better than canned, but homemade always trumps them all! :-)
