Flip Flopping My Meals

I was a real rebel today and ate lunch for breakfast, dinner for lunch and breakfast for supper. HA! This all came about because my Uncle treated us to Sunday Brunch today at a ritzy (for us) hotel restaurant. It was a blast….he’s the coolest to hang out with. Here’s a picture of him ad DD at Christmas time: 100_7774

I woke up at 8 and knew I’d be too hungry by 11 if I didn’t eat anything. My being hungry + a buffet = a mad belly the rest of the day. I had about a 1/3 cup of goat’s milk yogurt left which I mixed with the rest of last night’s coconut quinoa: IMG_1003

I relaxed with the computer before hitting the shower and then we were on our way! The brunch this restaurant puts on is spectacular! I really had to pace myself so I could taste all that it offered. My game plan for buffet’s is usually to only serve myself food that I 1) can’t usually find 2) don’t ever make 3) rarely have. My first go around was French toast, a waffle, egg Benedict w/o the sauce (don’t like it!) and some fruit. I also ate a piece of DS’s bacon: IMG_1004

Round 2 was lunch foods. There was some Asian ginger pork, paella, lemon chicken, salmon, a rye bun, asparagus, fresh mozzarella, pickle and baby carrots: IMG_1005

There were some fabulous looking stuffed potatoes that I was hoping my hubby would select because I knew I would never be able to finish one myself and I don’t like to waste food. Alas, he passed, too. Round 3 was to be dessert but when I got up there all the scrumptious looking cakes not only hadn’t been touched, but were cut into fairly large pieces. Again, I knew I wouldn’t be able to finish a whole piece so I opted to go back for another helping of French toast, waffle and fruit! IMG_1007

They had a make-your-own-omelette station which the kids were pretty impressed over. They enjoyed picking their toppings and watching the guy cook right in front of them. DS wanted me to take a picture of his cheese and ham creation: IMG_1006

I wasn’t too stuffed when we left, but a few more bites woulda put me over the edge so I’m glad I stopped when I did! I forgot to mention yesterday that DD gave me New Moon as a late b-day present yesterday. I watched it last night with my hubby and we all changed into our cozy clothes, snuggled under blankets and watched it again this afternoon. L-O-V-E-D it! I don’t want to say that it was better than Twilight because I loved that one too, but New Moon was made better than Twilight. Obviously, there was a better budget for this one! I also think that New Moon followed the book closer. My hubby and I decided that next weekend we’re gonna watch them 2 back to back. I’m (pleasantly) surprised that he likes them enough to do that! LOL!

I still wasn’t too hungry when “dinner time” rolled around. The fam heated some pizza in the oven and I wasn’t feeling that so I went with my old stand by, oatmeal. IMG_1010

  • 2/3 cup water
  • 1/3 cup Old Wessex 5 Grain oats
  • cinnamon
  • strawberries
  • granola
  • kefir

This was the perfect sized meal, as far as my appetite was concerned! After eating a whipped up another batch of my dark chocolate chip avocado muffins: IMG_1011

I brought a few to my parents place and plan on sharing some at work tomorrow. I did just eat one myself, for quality inspection, of course!! :)

I’m off now to watch The Amazing Race and then Undercover Boss. Hope you’ve all had a great day!!!

Bye for now!!

  1. I love your family! I realize that relationships are imperfect, and fraught with disagreements, hardships, tears and struggles- and I am not attempting to make any assumptions about your family- but you guys seem to have it SO together!!! How do you and your husband make it work? I can see that you truly respect each other, but more than that, you enjoy each other's friendship. You give off such a wonderful vibe. I love reading your posts for that reason. You seem to be best friends, and enjoy each other's companionship, company etc. You also have 'alone' time and seperate interests. When you do disagree or fight- how do you work things out? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks for setting a great example! Wishing you all the best!
    Love, Barbara

  2. I like your buffet strategies! Buffets used to be my downfall, and I still need to be really careful and mindful when we go... And I love that you were a rebel today when it comes to food! I have been craving oatmeal for dinner lately...

    Have a good week! :)

  6. Brunch rocks! Its my favorite meal of the week (we go every Sunday pretty much). Southern brunch is done differently though- not usually a buffet and you just select a larger lunch or breakfast item. But so delicious! Great job on all of your selections. I can never get enough fresh fruit. I still haven't seen New Moon. Glad to hear its good though! Have a good Monday

  8. I love the buffet. We have a hotel/resort place near by that we go to maybe once a year - I always eat way too much! Someday I'm going to make those muffins!

Undercover Boss...saw a commercial for it for the first time last night. We didn't watch it, but I'm interested. Mostly, I think it'd be funny to hear employees trash talk the boss!

  9. I still need to try making those muffins! I've got some bananas I need to use though..i wonder if i could sub out the bananas for the avocado? but then i'm missing the fat component with the avocado...hrm.

but what a great buffet you got to attend! i have yet to do something like that; looks delicious! i'm totally with you on the choices you made too, as in trying the things you rarely/never make!

  10. coconut quinoa seems like a very interesting combination, as do the dark chocolate avocado muffins. I'm going to have to give both of those a try :).

I am gonna catch up on the amazing race later tonight probably, but I'm finding this season a lot harder to want to watch considering jeff and jordan got eliminated last week.

  12. That buffet sounds and looks incredibly delicious!! I'm a huge fan of buffets because you can try a taste of everything. However, I often feel like I don't get my money's worth since I don't eat a lot. The variety is what makes it worth it I suppose!

Love your choices- belgian waffles and french toast are so so delightful!!

  13. I L O V E going out for brunch. It's so decadent to me. But I do tend to go overboard on buffets. I like your strategy.
