Time To Give In

After waking up yet again with a stuffed nose this morning, I waved my white flag and called in sick. We sent all the pays out yesterday so today would’ve been a slow one anyways. I’m one of these people that feels really guilty about missing work unless I’m flat on my back sick. Are you the type of person who feels justified calling in sick regardless of whether it’s a cold or the flu or do you lean more towards pretty much punching the clock no matter how crappy you feel? I always feel like there’s gotta be a happy medium and am always curious on what other people think.

The boys were out of the house by 5:30am for hockey practice and I woke up naturally at 7. This gave me plenty of time to organize the kids, call the office and the sitter and eat breakfast before I drove the kids to school. (Note: the kids always walk back and forth to school from the sitter’s , but we live a bit far for them to walk from our house.) IMG_0636

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup Quaker oats
  • 1 tbsp vanilla latte coffee powder
  • walnuts IMG_0635

I used this vanilla latte powder in my oats today… IMG_0634

….because there wasn’t enough left for a beverage. I like to do this sometimes as a treat, as well. ;)

I actually ended up having a productive day. I watched Dr. Oz and Rach while stripping all the beds, laundering the sheets and then remaking them. Then I decided that a nice 1/2 hour walk on my treadmill was in order so I hopped on and entertained myself with an episode of Cold Case. I did just over 2 miles and burned about 350 calories. Once off I figured I might as well vacuum the place while I was at it. Forty minutes and another 300 calories later, the house was fur free. Boy, did a shower ever feel nice!

I was starving at this point so lunch was a must. I made an omelette using a 1/4 cup of Egg Beaters, 1 slice of mortadella and a bit of goat’s cheese brie. On the side was an Ezekiel English muffin with a wee bit of peanut hazelnut butter and some grapes. IMG_0639

Dense and hardy…just what I needed to get some energy back! Over the afternoon hours I did a few more loads of laundry, read a few magazines that had been piling up and baked this package of muffins that I bought on a whim: IMG_0632 IMG_0633

They were really really easy to throw together. The package contents, 2 eggs and 1 tbsp of oil. I used Egg beaters and left out the oil. IMG_0641 IMG_0640

I haven’t had one yet, but they seem to have come out fine and my hubby has already eaten 2 so that’s another good indicator! ;)

Supper was the very last of Saturday night’s pork roast, brown rice and orange cauliflower. IMG_0643

What a boring looking plate, eh? LOL! Dessert was anything but boring: IMG_0642

It’s been awhile, but I finally caved and bought some on Sunday. How could I resist this? IMG_0644

I just got back from taking DD to skating. I popped over to the “big” grocery store while she was on the ice and bought a few new (to me) products. I’ll show ya tomorrow because it’s too dark to get any good picture’s right now.

I hope you’ve all had a great day. Just think, tomorrow is already Friday! WOW!

Bye for now!!

  7. I'm the type of person that would call for sick whenever I feel really crappy. But I wouldn't be as productive as you, I'd probably sleep all day long at the couch!
hope you feel better soon! ;)

  8. Aww I hope you feel better. There's nothing worse than that stuffed sinus headache and constant running. Especially if you can't sleep because of it! I usually feel terrible about calling in sick, but honestly when I think about it, I know it's for the best. I don't want anyone else to get what I have! You're more than justified to take a day for your own well-being!
And I love that little raspberry cheesecake dessert- mmm
Cleaning the house is one of the best forms of exercise, I'm always slightly drained after!

  10. I usually have to tough it out for college if there is tests or big assignments that day, otherwise I am a total fan of resting when your feeling down, because if you push it, things usually get worse.

  11. Since I got married it's been much nicer to have someone else telling me "I can't go into work!" - normally I would get sick just thinking about "if I was sick enough not to work" - and isn't funny how the world doesn't stop when we stay home and rest for a day? I have to keep reminding myself of that! :)

  12. hope you feel better Krista!
I don't feel too guilty calling in sick. Even mental health days I take if I feel I need them. I took 2 in early February. Sometimes staying home is just what is needed.

  13. Aww.. hope you're feeling better soon, Krista! It's going around, everyone seems to be sick right now, except for me, knock on wood. ;) LOL!! You did have a productive day considering how you feel though!

On another note, can you email me with where you buy your sample pkgs of Amazing Grass from? :) Thanks!
