Twilight In The Afternoon

Today was thankfully uneventful. That makes for a short post ahead. I stayed up late last night watching Twilight. Good movie! The book was way better, but I always think that about books that are turned into movies. I’m eager to see New Moon now. I went to bed grateful that I didn’t have to set my alarm and woke up at 8:30. The kids decided to make me some oats which was very nice of them but I just couldn’t stomach it. They might as well have handed me a bowl of sugar. *shiver* I didn’t have the heart to tell them I couldn’t eat it so once they ate their breakfast and went downstairs I tossed it and made a quick bowl in the microwave. 100_7142

  • 2/3 cup water
  • 1/3 cup oats
  • cinnamon
  • raisins
  • almond & pumpkin butter

This was very tasty and the kids didn’t know the difference!

DS had more hockey training from 12-1 with Todd Harvey, an ex NHLer. They did some pretty cool session on fake ice. I took some really cool videos, but I can not for the life of me figure out how to post one. Every time I try to load one into WLW, I get an error. If anyone can help a girl out, I’d love to share! :D

We didn’t get home until 2 and I was starving! I grilled up some tofu and served it on a toasted Ezekiel 4:9 English muffin with lots of broccoli sprouts c/o Manon and some mango wasabi sauce. I also heated up some grilled peppers and onions from the other night. 100_7152

Lunch dessert was 3 of Manon’s raw banana barely nut cookies; 100_7153

These babies may be small, but they packed a wallop of flavour….and they’re sugar free! I loved’em!!

I made a cuppa joe and snuggled under a blanket downstairs to watch Twilight again. On the big screen this time. The kids had watched it this morning and I was amazed at how much DS retained. He must’ve enjoyed it more than DD because she passed out half way through. My hubby even watched it. He didn’t mind it but thought there should’ve been more fighting. Men. LOL!!

Seeing as lunch was late, I just made a quick pot of soup for dinner. I cooked up a chopped onion and carrot then added 4 cups of chicken stock and maybe 2 of water. About 5 minutes later I added 5 frozen tomatoes and a few handfuls of fresh spinach. Once the maters thawed I hit the brew up with my immersion blended to “hide” the veg. I brought that up to a boil and threw in some frozen turkey meat, 1/2 a can of lentils and 3 palmfuls of noodles. The finishing touch was some shredded mozzarella cheese; 100_7155

Yum! We visited my parents after dinner then came home and watched The Amazing Race. I can’t believe the weekend has already come to an end. Definitely not ready for Monday morning!!

Bye for now!!

  3. Sounds like a pretty relaxing day overall :) Yummy dinner soup! I think soup is my favorite fall/winter meal. Twilight was good, def not as good as the book! They are promising a lot more in this second movie- I am so excited to see it!

  5. it's so nice from your kids to prepare you a breakfast, but I can understand sometimes good intention doesn't translate in good stuff for us... but you're a wise mom and didn't tell them (that would be heart breaking for them) and prepare afterward what's best for you! :)
are all women become wise once you have kids? hahah.... my mom is so wise too!

  6. I am a sucker for anything banana flavored--so those look amazing!! Love last minute soups as well. It seems with soup, you can throw anything in and it just works :o)

  7. Aww to the kids making you breakfast! At least they tried?! ;)

Books are ALWAYS better than the movies in my opinion as well. Atonement is such a better book (although LONG) than the movie. Pride and Prejudice gets me either way though - love it!

  9. I haven't read Twilight or seen the movie yet, but I'm the same way...I like to read a book before seeing the movie because the book is usually so much better!

I love your lunch today...full of flavor and pretty color!

  10. I'll admit, I haven't read any of the Twilight books (and have desire to - I generally don't read fiction), and really, the movie seemed really geared towards the teen crowd.

Very cool that the kids made breakfast for you, and I love the impromptu soup. Question - how well do tomatoes freeze?
